about adoption fees

As a non-profit organization, we are supported only by generous donations and adoption fees.  Each dog's adoption fee is listed on their Petfinder and Adopt-a-Pet listings as well as on our website, and we will also advise you of each adoption fee once you know which animal you'd like to adopt. Our average fee is in the range of $495 - $525 (which includes spay/neuter,  all age-appropriate distemper vaccines, rabies vaccine, deworming, heartworm test in dogs over 8 months of age, heartworm treatment if the dog had this condition, microchip including LIFETIME registration,  and state-required sales tax). There are some exceptions for senior dogs, bonded pairs, or dogs with medical issues. It's important to remember that you are not buying a dog; you are supporting a non-profit animal rescue.  Adoption fees help us offset our costs in saving these precious lives, so that we can continue this important work.

why adopt from good karma?

There are lots of things that set Good Karma apart. We never skimp or cut corners on care, and we will NOT release a dog for adoption until that dog is ready to be introduced to family life.

  • We're proud to have the best intake and preventative protocol in rescue
  • Good Karma has a self-imposed limit to the number of dogs we allow in a foster home to ensure that every dog gets the attention they deserve.
  • Thoroughly screened foster homes who receive endless support, training and resources.
  • Our dogs are not posted for adoption unless they are in an emotionally and physically healthy state.
  • EVERY Good Karma dog is:
    • Examined by a MN veterinarian after arriving to our rescue.
    • Living in a foster home.  NO boarding facilities, NO offices, ever.
    • In foster care for a minimum of 14 days. Because we know that it takes a dog some time to settle into his new environment and show his personality. We want to be comfortable in our own knowledge of the pet you're interested in adopting so that we can ensure the best match between pet and family.
    • Spayed/neutered
    • Provided with any other medically needed treatments including dentals, x-rays, ultrasounds, surgeries, etc.
    • Up to date on all age-appropriate vaccines
    • Heartworm tested (over 8 months of age)
    • Heartworm treated if they had heartworm - we NEVER adopt heartworm positive dogs before or during treatment.
    • Dewormed
    • Current on flea/tick medication and heartworm preventative.
    • Microchipped (LIFETIME microchip registration is included in your adoption fee).
  • Every Good Karma dog goes to their new family with toys and a handmade blanket that has been theirs since they arrived to rescue. These little touches make the transition to your home easier.

adopting is good karma

Thank you for choosing to adopt!  Every animal adopted equals THREE lives saved: the one you adopt, the one who can now come to our open foster home, and one who can take that one's place in the shelter.  Before you complete an adoption application, check out why you want to adopt from Good Karma.
