Adoptable dogs

Our adoption fees vary, depending on the dog you're adopting. As a non-profit organization, we are supported only by generous donations and adoption fees.  Each dog's adoption fee is listed on their Petfinder and Adopt-a-Pet listings as well as on our website, and we will also advise you of each adoption fee once you know which animal you'd like to adopt. Our average fee is in the range of $400 - $450 (which includes spay/neuter,  all age-appropriate distemper vaccines, rabies vaccine, deworming, heartworm test in dogs over 6 months of age, heartworm treatment if the dog had this condition, year-round heartworm preventative & flea-tick treatment, microchip,  and state-required sales tax), and there are some exceptions for senior dogs, bonded pairs, or dogs with medical issues. It's important to remember that we are not selling dogs. Adoption fees help us offset our costs in saving these precious lives, so that we can continue this important work.

About Adoption Fees

The emotional stuff

The physical stuff

There are lots of things that set Good Karma apart. Aside from our excellent service and response time, the quality of care that our dogs receive while they're waiting to be adopted is top-notch.

  • EVERY Good Karma dog is seen by one of our LOCAL partner veterinarians for a complete assessment, and EVERY Good Karma dog receives veterinary care according to OUR standards. We do not and will not cut corners or skimp on veterinary care.

  • The BEST preventative protocol in rescue. Upon arrival to Good Karma ALL of our dogs are given precautionary treatments for worms and parasites, and they are immediately given preventative medication for heartworm and fleas/ticks.

  • Our slightly OCD Director maintains a tight medication schedule and all dogs are given monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives YEAR ROUND. Yes, Minnesota has winters but the southern states where we rescue the dogs from, do not. We don't take chances.

  • Any animal you adopt from Good Karma will be spayed or neutered, up to date on all age-appropriate vaccines, heartworm tested (if over 6 months of age), heartworm treated if they had the condition, dewormed, and current on flea/tick medication and heartworm preventative YEAR-ROUND. All dogs are also microchipped.

  • A self-imposed limit to the number of dogs we allow in a foster home. You will never find a Good Karma foster home that is over-run with dogs.

  • Thoroughly screened foster homes who receive endless support, training and resources.

  • Our dogs are not posted for adoption unless they are in a healthy state. We spare no expense on our dogs and have countless dogs who have incurred thousands in veterinary costs for everything ranging from extensive dental procedures to comprehensive x-rays to medically necessary amputations.

  • All of our dogs are provided with toys and a handmade blanket to take to their forever homes with them. These little touches make the transition to your home easier.

  • You won't be able to take a Good Karma dog home with you until they've been in one of our foster homes for a minimum of two weeks. Why? Because we know that it takes a dog some time to settle into his new environment and show his personality. We want to be comfortable in our own knowledge of the pet you're interested in adopting so that we can ensure the best match between pet and family.

  • ALL OF OUR DOGS are in foster homes. NOT boarding facilities, NOT kennels, NOT cages. In homes. living with families.

why adopt from good karma?

adopting is good karma!

Thank you for considering adoption! Sadly, over 9,000 pets are euthanized in shelters in the US every week. By choosing to adopt, you are saving three lives:

- The pet you adopt;

- The life of another animal that will take his space in a foster home;

- The life of another animal who can take its place in the shelter.

Good Karma adopts out animals within a 60 mile radius of the Twin Cities, or a 30 minute radius of Duluth and Rochester. We have this radius because every Good Karma adoption requires a home visit, and this is where we currently have home visit volunteers.  For more information about our process, check out our Adoption FAQ's
