Our foster parents do.
"When you know better, do better." ~ Maya Angelou
We know, we know...fostering is hard. It's inconvenient. Just like you, at one time or another, we've ALL said, "I could never foster! I couldn't say goodbye/ I have no room/ I have no time/insert reason here". But then, we learned of the need. We learned about the plight of dogs who have no chance at survival. We learned about suffering and neglect, and we've looked into the eyes of countless abandoned and helpless animals. We learned that each week, over 9,000 shelter pets are euthanized through no fault of their own. That figure does NOT include the countless forgotten pets that are never reported, who are neglected, abused, or abandoned. That does not include the animals who are chained up outside 24/7, used for breeding or fighting, or who have otherwise been robbed of their right to a happy life.
And we can't unlearn any of it. Now that we know better, we strive to do better. You can help us grow this effort and save more lives. Opening your home temporarily to a foster dog will literally will keep a heart beating, PLUS one more! You're saving the foster dog that is coming to your home, but you're also opening up a space in that shelter for another dog who needs it. Yes, it's hard to fall in love with them and then send them off to their new families - but the tears are tears of pride and reward as well. Because without YOU, this animal wouldn't have a life to live. Fostering will make an impact on COUNTLESS animals AND humans, as there's no better fulfillment than a happy family with a happy dog. Every homeless dog needs just ONE person to step up and save them. Be that ONE person!
We are meticulous about the supplies and care we provide for Good Karma dogs. You will receive all the supplies you need for your foster dog, including:
If you've been considering joining a rescue, chances are you've seen this, or something along these lines: “No experience needed! We will provide everything you need, all you provide is the love!”. Yes, to an extent that may be true, but actually, Good Karma requires our foster homes to provide more than love. Our foster parents provide structure, rehabilitation when needed, patience, and commitment. Good Karma is only as strong as the commitment level of our foster families!!
If you're passionate about saving dogs from shelters, we'd love to hear from you. However, if you're looking at fostering as a way to shop for a new dog, if you aren't able to tolerate accidents, or if you're looking for a foster dog to fit seamlessly into your life and your routine, fostering may not be the best option for you. It's very important to us that our foster parents ENJOY the experience!! Fostering is a lot of work, but it's one of the most rewarding things you will ever do. The effort is always worth it! If you're a committed and passionate animal-person with a crazy love for dogs and a sense of humor, we'd love to have you come and rescue with us!
